Sawmill and Flour Mill Museum

The XIX Century sawmill in Àreu is evidence of the wood industry that could be seen all around the Catalan Pyrenees and which is now on the point of disappearing. It is a good example of local Pyrennean industry and it currently forms part of the Museu de la Ciència i la Tècnica de Catalunya network.

The sawmill and the flour mill and the Francis turbine help us to understand the role of water as a source of energy to saw wood, mill the grain to make flour and produce electricity at a local level.

The visit is made in groups with a local guide who will show the sawmill working and will explain some of its secrets. The visit is complemented by a small exhibition about its operation.
