LOCAL FESTIVALS

ALINS

  • Summer local festival: June 24th (St. Joan). Some weeks before the festival, the fallaires cut logs which are carried down the mountain, burning on their backs, to the village where they are all put together to make the bonfire to celebrate St.Joan.
  • Local winter festival: January 22nd (St. Vicenç)..

AINET DE BESAN

  • Ainet de Besan celebrates a pilgrimage to the hermitage of Mare de Buiro (Santes Creus) on May 1st.
  • Local winter festival: January 6th.

CARNAVAL

  • “Dijous Gras”: In the morning activities for the children from Vall Ferrera and in the afternoon theatre in the Saló d’Alins and a popular afternoon meal.

 ÀREU

  • Carnaval Saturday: Fraternal lunch, activities in the afternoon and supper-fancy dress dance.

OTHER FESTIVALS AND POPULAR TRADITIONS

ALINS

  • Pyrenean Iron Fair: Second weekend in July. Fair with artesan blacksmiths and other local artesans and producers. Different activities related to the the art of blacksmithing and the history of the exploitation of iron in the Vall Ferrera.

ÀREU

  • La Cuita el Sol: Second Saturday in June. Race at the foot of the high mountain range, from Àreu to the top of Monteixo (a height of 1,650 m). Also an artesanal fair.
  • Climb to Port de Boet: Popular climb to Port de Boet and exchange of local products with our French neighbours from Auzat, reliving the old market tradition.
