Vall Ferrera is located on the border with Andorra and France and contact with these two states throughout history has been constant.

We have to highlight the Pla de lo Mercat (traditional area for the exchange of products with villages from Ariege), located on the Pla de Boet. This activity is currently being recovered with an annual meeting at Port de Boet.

During the Civil War and the Second World War, the border was used as the road to exile for the civil and military population.

From the other side it was used as an entrance for the guerrilla known as the “maquis”.

We also have to point out historical activities such as the smuggling of products with Andorra through the Vall de Tor, providing wool to make blankets and fabrics and coming back with packets of tobacco, something which gave a break to the precarious post-war domestic incomes.
