Every year, during the second weekend in June, the popular mountain race the “Cuita el Sol” takes place in Vall Ferrera. This is a sporting event based on Pep Coll’s story “L’home que corria més que el sol” (“The man who ran faster than the sun”).

The idea is to set off from the main square in Àreu just as the sun is setting and reach the top of Monteixo before darkness falls, climbing 1,600 m.
For the young ones there is the “Junior Cuita el Sol”, with the finishing line at Jespedil at 1000 m.

More than a race it is a Pyrenean festive and cultural occasion, taking place amidst a market of traditional products from the Pallars region, livened up by traditional music from the area, popular food and a sheep dog exhibition.
