The Vall Ferrera is a valley of mushrooms.

There are always people going in and out of the woods searching for them and some even eating them. The Vall Ferrera mountains and woods produce good mushrooms.

The first ones to be collected are the scotch bonnet or fairy ring mushroom (Marasmius oreades) and the wood blewit or bluestalk mushroom (Lepista nuda). In summer we can gather the penny bun, porcino or cep mushroom (Boletus edulis) and the chanterelle, golden chanterelle or girolle mushroom (Cantharellus cibarius).

The milk cap mushroom (Lactarius) comes out sooner or later, depending on the summer rains.

In autumn the ivory waxy cap or cowboy’s handkerchief mushroom (Hygrophorus glyocyclus), the grey knight or dirty tricholoma mushroom (Tricholoma terreum), the cauliflower coral, pink-tipped coral or clustered coral mushroom (Ramaria botrytis), etc, etc., appear.

We can also eat them in the excellent restaurants of the Vall Ferrera where we can find a variety of dishes cooked using mushrooms accompanied by “llangonissa” (typical sausage), marinated pork chops, veal, game, etc., etc.

We can collect mushrooms in the Bosc de Virós, the Pla de Boet, Font-Tallada, different spots where we can also enjoy their natural environment.
